PES editions up to PES 6 (at least on PC and next-gen consoles such as XBOX 360 or PS3) offered, among other pre-match options, the ability to choose the match referee (or let the game decide by choosing "Random"). Of course, there were additional referees used in League, Cup and Master League mode, which could not be selected in Exhibition Match mode.
